Head above water (poem)

In between the come and go

There are those who look but don’t know,

here today gone tomorrow, a city life full of sorrow.

Shopping signs win like land mines

The city’s drummer changes his beat,

there you are swept off your feet.

Keep your gaze low,

if any respect you know

it may surprise a wandering soul,

their thousand sighs a heavy toll.

Who was a stranger is now a friend

For the broken-hearted a God-send,

the odds are few and far between,

life passes by as we stare at the screen.
