Our minds play games with us

You know those thoughts that play with your mind?

Not the ads for car insurance I mean, you know, those unsolicited scenarios conjured up by our petty unconscious existential fears?

Terrifying, dreadful in nature, always accompanied with that sense of inevitability and helplessness, as if one were gagged and tied to a chair on a conveyor belt moving towards a fearsome, well-polished, convulsing grinding machine, steam escaping from its hinges, the conveyor belt creeping at such a speed fitting enough for one to play out the plethora of possible gory sensations over and over again in one’s mind.
